Beautiful artwork celebrating Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, Swan Lake auctioned in aid of the King’s Theatre fundraising campaign.

As we welcome Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake to the Festival Theatre this week - a bold reinterpretation that revolutionised the world of dance and became one of the most beloved and acclaimed productions of our time - we are delighted to offer you the opportunity to bid for this very special artwork.

A unique piece capturing the powerful presence of the male swan in its iconic feathered costume. Commissioned in 2019, the painting was created by Scottish artist Hazel Bowman, who brought to life the emotional intensity and dynamic movement at the heart of Matthew Bourne’s groundbreaking production.

The piece is handsomely mounted with art glass and has been donated to Capital Theatres to raise funds for the re-development of the King’s Theatre, valued in the region of £1,700.

Capital Theatres is entering the final year of its ambitious transformation of the King’s Theatre and the excitement is mounting. From installation of world-class technical staging capability, including a new stage, the King’s will be better placed to programme more dance, right through to refigured front of house areas and brand-new creative engagement facilities, the overhaul is 70% complete with 91% of the target funding achieved.

The artwork has been generously donated by King’s supporters, Chalmers Neil and Bob Corsie, owner of the Watson Art Gallery in Edinburgh’s Queen Street.
